Neutral Fall Mantle

Tough girls have got to decorate too, y’all! I don’t know about you people, but I like to shop my house constantly to create new pretty combinations. These damn built-ins were the best/worst idea I’ve ever had. I could spend (and do) hours just moving things around. Its like decorating Sudoku. I don’t really shop at stores for ensembles ever. I hate going to a craft store where they’ve made a look happen and I’m just supposed to buy everything they set out. I have a brain too, craft store! Don’t try to steal my thunder.  I purchase things I like (usually used) that fall into one of three categories: natural, metallic, white/black. I’ll occasionally add color to the mix, but I just can’t commit. I can’t get monogamous with color. I’m currently in an open relationship with green, though. Blue knows—its all cool.

This pendant flag banner came from the holiday Farmshow a few years back. If you live in the Willamette Valley, you should really hit Farmshow in Turner. Hit it! The pendant was exactly the thing I knew I wanted to base the whole mantle on. I just picked around the house for the rest of the items.

What I find works best for bringing random things together for a ‘put together’ look is either a collection of similar things or the trifecta I mentioned above of natural (think wood, burlap, etc.), metallic (sparkly, mercury glass) and a plain color (usually white or black for me). I featured some light green in this mantle as well. See, green? You’re still #1. For now.

SO – from one tough girl to another, shop your house, people. You are a curator of cool stuff that just needs a new home. Put your natural textures with your shinies and your color and call. it. good.

Hi, I'm Shannon. I like to write about tough girls and tough things because I find strength to be an interesting and inspirational topic. My husband, Vic is my favorite person and my children, Emerson and Finley are right up there too. I am a disability mother and advocate. A woman-loving, lean-in type. And a fitness coach and cheerleader.
